Cooley Was Insightful, Good-Natured
James Cooley, 58, passed away Nov. 11 in Austin. He worked for the state 13 years, most recently as a healthcare researcher and analyst in the Medical and Social Services division at HHSC.
“His contributions to advancing health and healthcare were many,” said Quality and Program Improvement Director Matthew Ferrara. “His good nature, formidable intellect and keen insight are mourned. He was a sunny personality who will be missed dearly.”
Cooley’s previous professions include legislative chief of staff, carpenter and reporter. He built computers in his spare time. He loved his work and his family.
He is survived by his wife, Darcey and daughter, Jenni as well as grandchildren, Matthew and Rose. He is also survived by parents, James and Suzanne; brother, Steve; sisters, Vicky, Linda and Jo; and a large extended family.
